I have
always believed in ghost or spirits ever since I was 5 years old and I saw a
spirit on my bed right before my bedtime. Now I am a grown woman in the Army and
I got deployed to Iraq for 12 months. I am home now and I wanted to tell of an
experience I had in the desert one night on guard duty.
We have a military phone called a dnvt that we used, but we had just arrived to
our site that day , so our phone lines were NOT hooked up. I was on guard duty
one morning with a fellow soldier about 1AM and our dnvt phone rang, mind you it
was not plugged into our switchboard yet. We both looked at each other with a
sort of puzzled look.
I picked up the receiver and heard a lot of static at first, for about 10
seconds, and then, all of a sudden, 2 or 3 different voices started speaking, in
Arabic. I gave the receiver to my battle buy and he heard the same thing and
then the line went dead, no pun intended). I just thought it was some kind of
glitch in the system but I've heard other people say they have had this same
experience not only in this war, but wars past. If someone knows any more info
about this , please email me.

Great story Tonya! We've featured other stories which are quite similar! With phone calls from the deceased. We also have a story regarding sound powered phones on a Navy ship. Very creepy! The question is.... Was it deceased Iraqi's? Jinn's? Something else?

I was
out shooting one night with my dad on a property about 30km from our town. We
had just come up to a gate which entered the paddock that held the original
homestead of the property, now run down and abandoned. I got out to open the
gate and as soon as I touched the metal of the chain tying it I got a chill in
my stomach and my legs went cold and numb too.
I opened the gate and we drove through slowly, sweeping the spotlight for foxes
and rabbits. With each sweep of the light through the pitch black we encountered
more and more of the original farm layout. Gaping sheds with remnants of old
machinery, old water troughs and finally the old homestead.
The house was massive, square with a verandah running along each side, a sagging
tin roof and peeling grey paint. The large windows were now dark holes with the
broken glass lying on the verandah below them. The air outside was perfectly
still and silent, the sound of our truck was almost deafening.
As we drew up alongside the house on our way past we could see the hall that ran
straight through the middle and out the other side. As we were driving slowly we
kept the light on the house to have a look if anything was
salvageable, like old furniture or antique fittings. We came almost to a
complete stop around the other end of the house, where we could again see down
the hall that ran through the middle.
All at once a figure
stepped from one of the doors
in the hall walked a few paces toward us and then walked into a door on the
opposite side of the hall.
I was really scared but my dad shone the spotlight into the window of the room
the figure had gone into. There was nothing in there that we could see.
Extremely shaked he put the truck into gear and took off towards the gate we had
come in through. Once we had gone through the gate I felt the coldness ease a
little, and one I had closed the gate and locked it again the feeling was gone.
My dad was watching me shut the gate and had the spotlight aiming towards me. He
says that as I
turned my back and walked toward the truck a dark figure had appeared at the
edge of the light then walked away again.
We have never ventured into that paddock since. We asked the property owners why
the house had been abandoned thinking there may be a reason for our experience,
but all they said was that the track leading to the old house used to flood
badly just outside the gate and his grandparents used to get stranded there
often, so they built the new house.
I have seen many bizarre and frightening things while out in the bush at night,
but this was one that really shook me.
Great story Shannon! I could totally picture your encounter with the unknown as I read it! Perhaps the owners knew more than they were letting on about the home. I for one just love Australian ghost stories! Keep them coming dearies!

Negative Man....

I have
always believed in ghosts and or spirits, as it seems they have followed my
family since before I was born. The haunting that I will mention in this writing
has taken place and continues today in my parent's home. I am 23 now and have
moved out of my parents home, however I am there at some point everyday so I
have witnessed this first hand.
The house is not very old it was built in the 1970s in a residential community.
It is not the stereotypical haunted house. We moved into the home in 1993. It is
a two level ranch style with a basement. From the moment we first moved into the
home I had told my mother that I felt a strange presence as if someone were
watching me.
About a year later the strange occurrences started and have not stopped. My sister, brother-in-law and niece resided in the basement and were the first to experience the haunting. In the middle of the night the light in their room would come on by itself and the radio would blast country music.
I had a
room upstairs across from my parents and in the early morning hours after my
parents would leave for work I would hear the phone being picked up and slammed
down on the receiver. None of this is very scary
but it gets worse. My sister and her family moved out of the house and I moved
into the basement at age 15 and nothing strange occurred for about 2 years.
When I
was 17 my mom and I started not getting along so well, I suppose I was
rebelling. It was at this time that it started again and has not stopped. I was
half-asleep in my bed one night when I felt something cold brush up against my
ear and at that moment I heard a voice whisper for me to "behave". I ignored
it thinking I was going crazy and went to sleep. The next day I had school and
then work right after. My mom showed up to pick me up from work 2 hours early
stating that my father had worked late and she was scared to stay in the house
alone as she had saw a figure of man drift through the laundry room and
disappear into the stairs. I then told her what had happened to me.
Shortly after I started sleeping in my old room upstairs which at that time it was a guestroom. A few days later as I lay in the guestroom my parents were asleep in their room I could hear a noise like chains coming down the hallway toward my room. The door was shut. I couldn't move I couldn't scream and then it began to knock on the door. I finally got up the nerve to open the door and run into my parent's room. My mom soon started sleeping in the room with me.
My
father is a skeptic but it has gotten him too. My father was in the shower when
he noticed that their was a shadow almost a negative of a man standing behind
him. This ghost never gave off a feeling of evil but instead felt like it was
trying to give us a warning.
Most recently another ghost has taken over in the house. My aunt now lives in my
old room in the basement and has witnessed it throwing pictures from the wall,
ripping paper, sitting on her while she sleeps and staring at her through her
bedroom door. She has described it as being a tall negative of a man with a top
hat, she believes it to be evil as that is the feeling that she gets.
It has
also pulled blankets off of my mom, shaken her bed, held her down while she lay
in bed so that she could not move, and it likes to run up and down the basement
stairs. You also hear furniture and tools being thrown in the storage area of
the basement on occasion. Needless to say when I met my fiancée and
had children I wasted no time moving out. I now only go to visit.
Yet another story of shadow men... The author didn't mention if this "negative man" had a face or not.. Those familiar with this site will understand the implications of that one! Wow!!! Sounds like a poltergeist or worse! As for me I would NOT stay in that house ever!

My story takes place in Harrisburg, North Carolina on the outskirts of Charlotte. My story takes place back in 1996.
One Saturday morning my mom made me get up out the bed and take our neighbor back home. She heard him calling from a tree in another neighbors yard for help, because he didn't know where he was. He suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. I was scared because I've heard tales of how people who suffer from this disease have super human strength and will try to fight you if they don't know you. So after 20 minutes of persuading me I went to help him.
When he saw me he told me that he was scared and he was really tired. I finally got him back to his house and everything was fine. Two days later I found out that he had died. Well that same night I was going to check the mailbox when I saw this person walking up the street toward me. I really believe I was in shock because I couldn't move. As I stood there this person was the same man I had took home only a few days earlier ( the dead neighbor). All I could do was stand there and the closer he got to me the more I could see he had a angry expression his face. Not only that he wasn't making no noise as he was walking.
By the time he had reached my neighbors mailbox I struck out running to my back door and out he corner of my eye I saw him running after me. In our front yard my mom has trees that start the walkway, by the time I got there I could literally see him, right there beside me turning the corner. I jumped on the porch and scared my mom half to death and I hid behind the bar so if he was still outside he couldn't see me.
My mom asked me what was wrong and I told her the same thing I just told you while she walking outside to see what was I running from. Then she had the nerve to tell me to come with her. I asked her didn't she just see me running from outside. Well after she checked outside (only walking on the deck), she told me maybe he was coming back to say thank you.
To this
day I don't know but I don't check the mail after sunset anymore!!!
The scariest part of this encounter for me is the fact that the shade was matching you step for step! I wonder what may have happened had you stopped or had he reached out for you! That story is a new type for "The Barrens". Any other readers out there with a pursuing ghost? If so tell us!

I have
always been a true believer of ghosts and the unexplained, but never to the
point where when I heard a ghost story I would be afraid to walk into a dark
room by myself. That is, until, my first experience with "the
unexplainable."
It was February of 2002 when my boyfriend, my daughter, and I moved into our first home in the west side of town. Our home was an average sized two bedroom, one bath, a large kitchen, and large living room. At that time my daughter was still taking formula in her bottle, so that meant getting up late at night to prepare her bottle.
About a week after living in our home, at about 12:30 in the a.m., my daughter woke up crying for her bottle. Her room was directly across the hall from our room so it only took about two seconds to get to her. When I walked into her room, it felt as if the temperature had dropped dramatically. It was so cold, I could literally see my breath when I exhaled. It was also so strange to me because her room had never been that cold before, especially that the heater vent was facing directly into her room. I walked over to her crib and picked her cold body up. As I was walking out of the room, it felt as if someone was watching me, standing right behind me. So I walked faster into my bedroom and placed her on the bed next to her dad. Walking to the kitchen I still felt as if someone was watching me from her room. I made her bottle and practically ran back to my bedroom to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of staring eyes.
The next morning I told my boyfriend about how cold the room was and how uncomfortable I felt. But by the morning her bedroom was the same temperature as the rest of the house. We had someone look at the furnace and nothing seemed to be wrong with it. Throughout that whole week, my daughter slept in our room because of how I felt. And still during the late night feedings, going to and from the kitchen, I would feel as if someone were staring at me. And about the sixth day of the eerie feelings, I got a real scare. I woke up like usual to prepare my daughters bottle. While I was walking back to my bedroom, one of my daughters dolls started laughing. Now in order to get the doll to laugh, you have to push her stomach in, and in this case, fairly hard.
Now I'm
really scared okay. So I wake up my boyfriend to go check on the room and to
shut the doll up because at this time, she was STILL laughing. He walked to the
room, with me behind him and turned on the light. The room wasn't cold but I
felt real uncomfortable, even standing in the doorway. My boyfriend had to
pull the battery from the back of the doll to shut it up. After that night we
kept the door to that bedroom shut.
One night, home alone (baby at my mother's), while reading a book, my phone rings. Its my cousin. I started to tell her about the house, and "the room," and the doll, when one of my daughters pictures fell from the wall to the floor. My cousin heard it and felt scared for me when I told her what happened. So I hang up the phone to call my boyfriend to come back home. While waiting on the couch, reading my book again, I felt the staring eyes on me. I kept to my book, trying to ignore the presence. There was a blanket on the other end of the couch, most of it laying on the couch with just a piece hanging over the edge of the arm. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the blanket begin to fall over the side of the couch as if someone were pulling it. That was too much for me to handle, so I grabbed the cordless phone and ran outside to call and see if my boyfriend was on his way or not.
About
two minutes later he showed up. I told him that I didn't want to stay in the
house that night because of what happened. He told me it was all in my head and
there was no need to be afraid. He said "there is no such thing as GHOSTS." Some
of our friends came over that night and he asked if I please didn't tell them
about
the things that were going on the house. Personally, I think he didn't want them
to think I was weird. But anyway, one of the couples of our friends ended up
staying the night. My boyfriend told them they could sleep on the bed in our
daughters room, but I insisted they sleep on the hide-a-bed. They chose to sleep
in the bedroom. The next morning they complained about how cold it was in the
room and how our daughter's Elmo doll wouldn't stop laughing, and how one of her
flashing light toys that played music would go off about every
thirty minutes. I then began to tell them about things that had happened
already. They were pretty spooked!
That next week , after being in very good health, my daughter became very sick. She wouldn't eat and she couldn't sleep at night. She looked so lifeless. She wouldn't move or make any noises. She would just stare into space, not blinking for minutes at a time. The doctor told us it was just a bug that was going around and that she would be better in a couple of days. but I knew it was the house. The funny thing about her sickness was that when we would leave the house, she would be more active, and make noises. But once we would return home she was back to her lifeless self again. So one day of that week, I decided to gather a few toys from her room. Maybe her toys would cheer her up. When we walked into the room, it felt cold as usual. I was only going to be there for a minute, so I put my daughter in her crib and began to gather up some toys. A moment later my daughter began screaming and crying as if someone were hurting her. Her scream terrified me so badly, I dropped the toys that were in my arms and in a hurry, picked her up and got out of that room.
When we
left the room, she stopped screaming, and she stopped crying. A couple of days
later, I got brave enough to go into my daughters room because it needed to be
cleaned from all the toys being scattered from old company's children playing in
the room. The whole time being in the room, even in the afternoon with the sun
shining in the room, I felt as if someone were staring at me, watching me, and
at some point, standing right behind me. I finally got fed up with being
uncomfortable in my own home and talked to my boyfriend about moving out of the
house. He agreed and after being in the house for not even a month, we began to
move out. Moving out was the best feeling I had since moving into the house, and
even while boxing up my daughters belongings from her room, I felt no staring
eyes.
The last
night of getting the last of our stuff, I went to the house by myself, feeling
confident enough to go inside and turn off the lights that were left on. When I
got there I turned off the light in my daughters room and shut the door behind
me. I had the sudden urge to go to the bathroom, which was just to the right of
the room, so I went, leaving the door open. While handling my business, I felt
the cold air that I was so afraid of before and the staring eyes that frightened
me in the night. At that same time, I heard the creaking door of my daughters
room begin to open. still sitting on the toilet, scared to death, I grabbed the
first thing I saw; the plunger. I sat there, on the toilet praying that no one
or "nothing" would come into the bathroom. About
30 seconds after waiting, there was a loud bang from wall of my daughters room
the sent me running out of the bathroom, pants halfway down my legs, and out of
the house, leaving all the lights on and the front door wide open. I got in my
car and drove off like a bat out of hell.
When I
returned to my boyfriend, I was in tears and shaking like a crazy person. He of
course asked me what happened. I told him what happened and that I was not
returning to the house to turn off the lights or to shut the door. I was
hysterical. So he and one of his friends went to the house and came back with no
story to tell.
Now
whatever was in the house obviously didn't want me or my daughter there. And
whatever it was, I believe, had my daughter as sick as she was. I'm just happy
to say we left before "the unexplained" got really angry.
Great story Jacki! I for one wouldn't have lasted a night after the whole "laughing doll" episode! Sounds like you were lucky to get out when you did! Send a photo of the home if you have one, our readers would love to search it for evidence of it's Cold inhabitant.

My encounter was in NC, a while after an older man named Mr. Zeb died after having a stroke during church, my friend was sleeping over one night. We were staying up late and we decide to I believe go to the bathroom.
Well, when we were coming into the hallway, I saw a white figure pass by the coat rack heading for the living room. My friend said,"woh! what was that?"
I said, "it was Mr.Zeb!" and I can still remember it to this day the image of him, just the way I want to remember him, in his church suit, just like him, and nothing different.
