Midnight Visitor....

I would like to submit an odd occurrence that happened to me about 17 years ago. I was attending a local college at the time, living with my folks to save expenses. My parents live in a 1940’s-50’s “cracker-box” house, 1 1/2 story with attic dormer and full, finished basement.

I slept in the attic dormer. It had a window at either end and my bed was next to one of them. I had been sleeping soundly (strange, as I have suffered from insomnia all my life), but awoke suddenly in the dead of night (sorry, very bad pun). I had a small window air-conditioner running as it was a hot, sticky night.

By the light of the street lamps I saw the figure of a woman standing by the side of my bed. She was backlit by the light so I saw no facial features, but she looked as real and 3-dimensional as you or I, in fact, she even swayed slightly from side to side, just as a person does when standing. She had curly hair, was short, and wore a housecoat. In fact, she greatly resembled my mother who has those features. I remember wondering why my mom was standing by my bed in the middle of the night, watching me sleep.

I called out “Mom?”, but there was no answer...in fact, no sound at all, no creak of the floor boards, no sound of breathing...nothing. I can recall the exact moment that I realized what I was looking at was not my mother. My heart gave a single great thump that I could feel throughout my entire body, then came the adrenaline burst. I stared for what seemed like an eternity before gaining the courage to tear my gaze away and turn on my bedside lamp.

When I did, there was nothing there. There was literally no time for any human being to leave the room, and nowhere they could hide in the short time it took to switch my light on. When I turned off the light, the figure didn’t return. To this day I have absolutely no idea who or what I saw. I know of no deaths that happened in or around the house, and I have had no other incidents in it.

My parents still live in the house. I only know that I never felt at ease in that attic room, and still don't even when my family return for visits. Thanks!!

Great short story Shari! Thanks for submitting!

This is my very first encounter that happened when I was 8 years old. My great aunt that we called "Plang" had died sometime in the late spring of 1990. She was a diabetic and before she died, she had an arm and a leg amputated shortly before she died.

About three months after the funeral, my mom sent me up the street to my Aunt Georgia's house to borrow a some sugar like she always does. On the way back home, I noticed a woman walking down the street with long black hair that very much looked like my Aunt Plang, but I figured it couldn't be my Aunt Plang because she was dead.

I just kept on walking home, but by the time I had gotten to my driveway I was very mistaken. It was my Aunt Plang in the flesh with both of her arms and both of her legs dressed like she might have dressed when she was younger. I just stopped and looked at her, and she must have known I was watching. She turned around and looked at me and asked, "Don't you remember me? I'm your aunt Plang."

I stood there in disbelief and watched her walk down the end of my street, which was a dead end road with a railroad track, and watched until she disappeared into the woods. I went inside and told my mom who believed me because she is a firm believer of the supernatural. At that moment in time, I knew something was creepy about the situation, but it took about 2-3 years later before it frightened me.

How creepy is that one?!  Amazing story! Send in a photo of your aunt and we will post it here...

Meddlin' relations....

My grandparents (Ed and Theresa) built their home on 2 acres of land about 49 years ago. It is a 3 bed 2 bath home. When you walked into the front door you were in the living room straight ahead was a big opening to the kitchen you could walk through either the kitchen or living room to reach the "front bathroom" and hallway. The hallway lead to the "front bedroom", "middle bedroom" and the "back bedroom and bathroom".

Not long after completing their house my great-great parents (my grandmas mom and dad) moved in a trailer along side them. They were getting old and needed my grandparents to help take care of them. I live with my grandparents throughout most of my childhood.

When I was 6 my great-grandma due to complication from heavy smoking past away and my great-grandpa was soon to follow. Not long after their passing is when everything started happening but it all generated from the "middle bedroom" and then in later years it branch outward throughout the house.

A few days after my great-grandfather passed I heard his voice come from the middle bedroom he said "heehah" which was something he said when he would sit down to relax. I ran to my grandma and told her I heard him. I think she blew me off as a 6 year with a vivid imagination.

When I was 13 I moved everything except for my bed (being there was already one in there) into the "middle bedroom" because it was larger than the room I was in previously. One night after falling asleep I awoke with a strange feeling that I needed to get up right then. When I opened my eyes there was this lady that I have never seen in my life staring at me with the meanest facial expression. My first instinct was to turn on the light and run. Has soon as I reached for the light she was gone. My heart was beating 90mph, I ran to my grandmas room and told her what had happened. Seeing how upset I was she let me sleep with her that night.

The next morning I described what I had seen to her. She with out missing a beat said that was your "Old Mom De nesh" (which was my grandma's grandma) she just came to check on you. I asked her "well, what about her "mean facial expression"?" She told me that "Old Mom" was an indian and that she just looked mean. She was known for smoking a corn-pipe at night before she went to bed. She also added that she didn't like people on her bed after she made it. Considering it was "Old Mom's" bed I let her have it and moved my things back into the "front bedroom".

From then on I would not stay in there. It became a storage room after that. Until when I was 19 my mom moved home into the room. Almost immediately the activity started up again. She said she would hear foot steps and something hitting the wall. Not long after that we started smelling cigarette smoke, since we are allergic to it we knew it could not have been us. We attributed the smoke to my great-grandma coming to check in on us.

The activity became worst when I was pregnant with my son. The house no longer felt safe as soon as I would walk into the house I feel like someone was sitting on top of my shoulders. The house felt dark and cold. One evening while cooking, a head of lettuce flew off the kitchen cabinet into the middle of the floor. Cabinet doors would slam shut rattling the dishes inside. The lamps would turn on and off as well as the TV. I was becoming more and more scared to stay in the home by myself after everyone left.

One day while I was watching TV, I heard the distinct sound of someone dropping change onto my chest of drawers in my room. Knowing I was the only person at the house at the time. I took a stand against the pesty ghost and yelled "THIS IS MY HOME I AM TIRED OF BEING SCARED IN MY OWN HOME PLEASE GO TO THE LIGHT. IF YOU ARE MY GREAT GRANDMA OR OLD MOM I GET THE POINT YOU ARE HERE BUT YOU ARE SCARING ME PLEASE STOP".

A few days later the house felt better and my shoulders felt lighter. We have not had any new occurrences since.

sounds like trouble with meddlin' relations!

Dead Girl....

One of my many ghost encounters was when I was about 13 (now 16).

We were driving by 7 eleven and Villa Sierra Apartments when I first saw the ghost. She was a pretty light-skinned girl, with long, curly black hair and she was dressed in all black. Every time we would drive by, I would see her and my mom noticed my change of facial expressions when we drove by.

One day my mother asked why my expression changed when we drove by that area. I told her and she was very frightened.

So one day a friend of my mother's mentioned she was planning to go and visit her sister at the Palmdale Cemetery. My mother asked her how she died and she said that she had been struck and killed by a drunk driver near 7 eleven and the Villa Sierra Apartments!!!

Since that day I have not seen the image of the little girl again.

Of course any more information regarding this "haunting" would be appreciated.  Perhaps the little girl still hangs out down at the 7-11...

This happened to me at a funeral home when I was 11.

My great-grandma had died and we were attending her funeral service. My aunt and my grandmother's sisters were talking mean about my great-grandmother, one aunt said something along the lines of "She was a bitch." or something like that.

My cousin and I were standing up at the casket viewing the body and all of a sudden it started shaking violently. It was terrifying and my cousin nearly passed out from the fright.

My uncle came forward to check and see if the casket was loose or resting unevenly on the bier and found that it wasn't loose at all.

Needless to say my cousin and I left the funeral home and did not return for the rest of the service!

Odd story, thanks for the submission! Don't talk ill of the dead!
