When someone is missing.....

Frozen....

This happened to me around 6 years ago. Sometimes when I think about what happened, I still can't believe it really happened, but it did.

I was the manager of a research facility at a medical school in Philadelphia, PA. In the past, I had several spooky things happen to me at different sites in this building, but this was the scariest.

We were having a very important inspection for our facility and the day before the big day, I went around checking various areas to make sure they were ready for inspection. We had a storage area adjacent to our wash room that contained an old walk in freezer from back when this part of the building was part of the Department of Anatomy.

Anyway, I went into the storage area, and it was a wreck, so I had no choice but to start straighten everything up. I was in the back of the room, and one had to go past this freezer to get out. A couple of hours into my work, I heard a click, and the door of the freezer started to open! I was scared to death, and ran to the door to shut it.

There was something on the other side of the door pushing against it to get out. I pushed with all my might and slammed it shut, I did not return to that room until the next day. When I returned, I sprinkled the freezer with holy water and said prayers for the dead from my old grade school missal (with my old grade school Latin).

Later, a co worker told me that body parts had been stored in that freezer from anatomy lab dissections.
I never went near that freezer after working hours again!

Whoa! Just in time for Halloween! I've always wondered what it would be like to be alone in a research lab at night! Now I'm glad I never had to find out first hand!!!! Thanks for the story!

Nurse Nancy...

I was stationed at Balboa Naval Medical Center in beautiful San Diego, CA. I was halfway thru basic medical training and our class were grouped in the old naval medical hospital. Everything on the base had been upgraded so the old building was converted into barracks. Of course we were not told of this until later and also while viewing old pictures of when the hospital was first constructed, in my mind, I said to myself "well, isn't this great."

The room our class occupied was, as you could say, at the time, first class quarters, because every female had their own sleeping section that was meant for two: two bunk beds and two huge doubled-door lockers. Females everywhere else were packed in like sardines, literally.

Our living quarters occupied an old ICU unit because you could still see the ports in the walls and by our section being so huge that at night we would have to leave the light on in the bathroom just to have light because the further you walked back the more pitch black it would become.

I would carry a pien light just to find my way. I never had a problem about being in the dark until this one particular night when everyone was asleep, including myself, with my head facing away from the lockers. All of a sudden I just woke up. Not sleepily wake up but on high alert. I never looked in the direction of whatever it was that had awakened me. I do have the ability to sense ghosts and this was one of them.

I felt someone's hand lift the left side of my mattress ( I slept on the bottom) and run their hand from one end of the mattress to another. Needless to say I stayed in my position until I eventually fell asleep. I never told anyone else in my class what happened. They probably would all be sleeping in the hallway.

I always enjoy military related ghost stories! It sounds like a nurse was doing her nightly rounds and straightening your linen! wow! This story will be permanently placed in the Gardens of Stone section next month.

Just Hangin' Around....

In 2003 and into the beginning part of 2004 I was a Marine with B company 1/4. I had two roommates at the time at the 53 area barracks. We were hanging out on night watching movies and it was getting to be late.
If I remember right it was around 0130 or 0200 and we looked outside and I saw a Marine in full combat gear hanging from the pine tree that was right outside our room. He was struggling violently, trying to get the rope from around his neck.

I looked over at my buddy really quickly and looked back outside and the Marine was gone. I went out on the catwalk to see where he went. I looked all around and he was no where to be found. I figured I was just tired and was seeing stuff.

So I decided to go to sleep and so did my roommates. We turned out the lights and turned the TV. off and started to go to bed. We all fell asleep. I was later woken up because I felt someone watching me. I opened my eyes, but that was all I could do. I tried to talk and couldn't and I tried to move, but to no avail.
In my paralyzed state I began to hear footsteps inside my room but I couldn't see anyone. Then our bathroom door opened and shut and I heard it lock. That is when our TV. turned on by itself.

This is when I was released from whatever was holding me down. I was scared outta my mind so I just stayed in bed. The next morning I asked one of my roommates about it and the same thing had happened to him at the same time.

These events happened a few times more before we deployed. We tried different things to prevent this from happening. We went as far as to have a watch outside our door and unplugging our TV. each night, but even when we did that the spirit still got in and the TV. still came on by itself.

Yet another great military related story, this one also is destined for the Gardens of Stone next month!  There are suicides that do happen at just about any military facility. but this story is interesting in that it contains elements of the "old hag" phenomenon. Wow! Great reading thanks for writing to us! Semper FI!

Verna Miller....

In 1993, My sisters and I took our grown children, grown to Ojai California to visit the grave of Verna Miller in the Nordoff Cemetery. This is a known active paranormal site and Verna Miller has been seen on many occasions. We, sadly, saw nothing. It was getting on toward 11pm so I turned to walk to my car which was parked approximately 100 to 150 feet from the Verna Miller gravesite. As I turned toward my car, I noticed a man standing in a casual leaning position, on the front left fender. I was not the only one to see him. My son and my sister also saw him.

Now we were not thinking paranormal, we were thinking 'Uh oh busted!' we were whispering alibis to each other to explain for our being there so late.

Before our eyes, as we were about 50 feet from the car the dark shadow of the man literally melted!! We all came to an abrupt halt and looked in disbelief at each other. As we reached the car there was a horrible stench of, well as if it were burning hair and flesh! We got into the car(s) and left the cemetery, oddest thing, the stench left the car the same time we pulled away from the entrance of the cemetery.

Thanks for the story! I have never heard of this particular name or cemetery being associated with any hauntings. OKAY dearest readers, someone who knows the tale, WRITE IN and tell us all about it!  Maybe somebody will be really nice and send in a tombstone photo!

My Grandma had been completely unresponsive in her hospital bed for two days when she suddenly lifted up her head and looked around the room at her family and gave a slight smile. She then laid back on her pillow and took her last breath. I felt a warmth over me and my body completely tingled. I did not feel sadness I only felt love.

I left the hospital and immediately drove to my parents house with my Aunt Jan, to pick up some important papers. I stood in the kitchen and opened the side drawer when suddenly from out of nowhere a small object fell from the ceiling and into a chair directly behind me. I peered at the chair and I could barely believe my eyes.

My ring, that I had lost 2 months ago had falling from nowhere. My Aunt was across the room and she had witnessed the ring falling from above. I was forever losing things over my grandma's house and she would always tease at me. I feel that this was her way of letting me know that she was ok.

I love these kinds of stories! sounds like Grandma wanted you to have your ring back safe & sound. I have heard of other instances where lost items can materialize out of nothing and usually they will drop from the ceiling area right in front of a person. Great story!
