Where it happened:  Aunt's house

Posted on:  5/31/03

This whole experience took place at my aunts house around 13 years ago.  My mum was employed by my Aunt to clean her house from Monday to Friday and also look after her daughter who often stayed home from school.  The house was very old and named 5 Willows.

That was very true. Four people lived in it as well as "IT".  The house was
set back  from the road.  The ghost  made its first appearance when my
mother was cleaning the top half of the house. My cousin Adele and I were
there as well. My mum had spent some time talking to Adele whilst she was
working.  My mum had thought Adele was outside with me but then she said
she distinctly saw out of the corner of her eye someone moving from one
room to another.  Assuming this was Adele she carried on talking to whom
she thought was Adele. Suddenly Adele called up to my mother from
downstairs "who you talking to Anita?" my mother replied "you!!!" "I just
saw you move from Linda's bedroom into your own!" Adele replied that she
had been outside for the last half hour. My mum completely freaked then
insisting that she had seen something and refused to go upstairs again.

After that incident a few weird things started going on, like things going
missing and mysteriously re-appearing again a few days later, written
messages in steam on the mirror when taking a bath- the door was locked
and there was no way that any one could have got in unnoticed. There were
footsteps when no one was on the second floor. In fact the ghost stayed on
the second floor because nothing mysterious ever happened downstairs.

The next major incident came 3 months after the first.  My Uncle Andrew said
that he woke up one night and turned to Linda. She wasn't in bed but he
could hear the toilet flushing she was in the toilet. then he looked up
and saw IT. IT was hovering above him looking down on him. Andrew said
that in his half sleepiness he called out Linda's name a few times thinking
it was her. Realizing it couldn't be her- he could hear in the bathroom-
he jolted to full awareness and looked up again.  It was still looking
down.  He let out a sort of shriek and the ghost quickly evaporated.

The events of things going missing went on after that. My aunt bought a new
dress and it disappeared the next day. it reappeared a few weeks later
ripped to shreds in her closet.  My cousins both swore they had nothing to
do with it. Also a big crack appeared in the landing wall and no-one
seemed to know how it got there.  My aunt said the crack was not there
half an hour before when she had been upstairs.  about a month later my
aunt and my cousin Adele also saw the ghost. The first night my Aunt was
in a deep sleep but suddenly jolted out of it by a feeling a immense cold
and she then told me she felt a huge sag in the bed like something was
sitting on the bed.  she sat up and saw a wispy figure sitting on the end
of the bed and stretching HER arms out towards Linda.  by this time we
were thinking of the ghost as a woman. it seemed womanly somehow even
though no one had seen her features clearly.  Anyway, my aunt screamed and
the ghost promptly disappeared one again.

During the next day sobs could be heard coming from the second floor when the only person in the house was my aunt.  the others had all gone to watch a football game. The very next night the dame thing happened to my cousin Adele. She felt a cold breeze sat up in bed and saw the ghost standing by her bed. This time there were no shrieks.  My cousin said she asked the ghost why she was here and why was she haunting the house.  Adele explained her family was very scared and could she please not scare any of them again. With that the ghost disappeared and nothing more of her was ever seen though she was often heard.

Well dear readers,  who or what do you think it was?  I think I would have declared the second floor a "no fly zone" and left it at that...

Did you ever lie in bed late at night and watch the shadows dance across the wall?  Did any of the shadows seem out of the ordinary?  If so, you will enjoy this next story...

Where it happened:  My bedroom

Posted on:  5/13/03

I was about 8 years old (now 10).  I had just said goodnight to my
mom and the light was off. I have shades on my two bedroom windows.

I was just about to fall asleep when I saw three figures walk past one of my windows! It happened so fast it took me a minute to overcome the shock.  Then I realized that the figures were people!

I tiptoed upstairs to my mom's room. She was still up watching late night TV.  I told my mom about the figures. Mom said that Dad is having someone over to fix something.  I said there were three of them, and why would they be snooping around in the middle of the night in the middle of winter?

Nobody knows. Who were the three figures? Nobody knows.  Now I always keep at least one flashlight by my pillow just in case... but I never saw the three figures again.

My My My.... well now, let us know if your three figures ever wander past your window again... Can you imagine what would have happened if you were on the second floor???

Have you ever rented a home, or stayed in someone's home and thought, "if these walls could talk, what would they say?"  Ask yourself after this next story if you would really want to hear it if they did...

Bad Plumbing is Murder...

Where it happened:  My childhood home

Posted on:  4/30/03

My story is from my childhood (I'm now aged 23). At the time I was aged around 5 yrs.

We lived in a large 4 bedroom house, the house being about 70 yrs old. The house was on a quiet terraced street which was fairly ordinary. It had been two small flats that the previous owner had converted into one large house.

Rather than being one long tale, I am going to tell you about several small spooky things which occurred and then you can decide for yourself whether the house was in fact haunted.

My mother tells me that once, aged about three, I cried and screamed at having to go upstairs to get a towel from the airing cupboard for her, as there was "a bad dream hiding on the stairs". I don't actually recall this but when she told me my stomach turned, as there are a lot of other things that I do remember which are linked to this.

I clearly remember waking up one night in my bedroom and there was a man
heading slowly toward the bed with a large knife held out towards me. He was dressed in very old fashioned clothing, pedal pusher trousers and what I can only describe as a Judge's wig. This sounds like maybe I was just dreaming but I remember it clearly and know for certain that I was wide awake. He simply disappeared when he reached the bed.

Another thing I remember clearly was the upstairs toilet flushing when there was nobody in there. This used to happen regularly and was an extremely spooky part of the house. Even my parents would not use the upstairs toilet at night. It actually sounded like a woman screaming. I found out years later that there was a murder committed in this room which my parents had known about. Thankfully I didn't find this out until I was about 19 yrs old.

Often the television in my bedroom would come on at night and wake me up.
I remember this would often happen but being very young I didn't think too
much of it and would fall back to sleep. In the morning the TV would be off and when I asked my parents and sister if they had been in my room they would swear that they hadn't.

My mother got  to a point where she actually called in a medium who told
her and my father that they must move out of the house in order to find peace from the spirit of a lady who was murdered by her husband in the upstairs bathroom in around 1940. When the house was reverted back to one house before we moved in, the ghost had been disturbed. She believed that until the house was converted back to two flats, her spirit would remain vengeful.

Not long after this my mum and dad decided to move from the house as the
noises at night were bothering me and my sister so much that we couldn't
sleep at night. I remember feeling very scared of the bathroom upstairs and my bedroom ( which was next door to the bathroom ), although I didn't find out any of the facts about the haunting until years after we moved house.

After we moved out a young family moved in. The father worked nights and
when at work his wife wouldn't leave the downstairs living room and slept
on the sofa with her little boy. The family moved out after only three months and the house was left empty for about a year. And I know that the next person to buy the house was a property developer who changed the house back to a set of flats.

Although I don't remember actually seeing a lot, this experience begun a
lifetime of fascination with the subject and you can decide for yourself.

Thanks for the submission! Great story!  I love the line that a bad dream was hiding on the stairs!  I'm glad my dreams can't come to life... Imagine going upstairs and finding your eighth grade math teacher wearing a tutu and having to take a pop quiz!  But seriously, a toilet flushing on it's own would have totally freaked me out!
