My
family and I moved into our house when I was 12 years old.
The house was brand new and we were the first people to live in it. For
years, nothing weird ever happened.
My mother collects antiques and old things, and when I was about 17 she bought an armoire from an antique shop that some of my fathers friends own. It is a beautiful old armoire that stands about 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide. After that, the strange things began to happen.
I would be sitting downstairs and hear footsteps in the room above where I was sitting. I would hear things drop and roll on the ground, and when I would go upstairs to check it out, there would be nothing on the floor. I told my mom and she dismissed these things as nonsense. She said it was probably the dog and that our house wasn't old enough to be haunted.
I began to believe her and every time I would hear a noise, I would just say it was the dog. Soon after that, I saw a show on the television about ghosts that said that spirits can be attached to furniture much like they are to a house. I told my mom and she laughed it off.
The
next day, I heard the upstairs noises and my dog was sitting
next to me. Now the room upstairs where the noises come from is my
parents room where the armoire is. Then the noises started leaving the
room and things begin to happen all over the house.
I would be laying in bed at night in my room upstairs and hear the stairs creaking. That's about all that happened until I left for college. I come home about once a month and during the summer. When I left, my room became the storage room and the computer room.
My brother, who is a little younger than I, would be sitting at the computer and feel like someone was behind him, but no one was there. Then, he said he felt a hand on his neck one time and was freaked out. He told my mom, who again, told him he was crazy.
The
summer after my sophomore year at college, my brother and I had stayed up late
one night. I sleep on the couch during the summer because my room is
so hot and my brother was in his room. He came running down the stairs
saying that someone was standing over him repeating his name.
The
next day, I was sitting on the couch and I saw the venetian blinds start to
swing on the patio door. They were not all swinging, just the blind on
the end. The door was closed, so it wasn't the wind, and when I went to
call for someone to come look, the swinging stopped. Same with the fan
pull in my bedroom. They always swing, but one night, it started swinging
like crazy and when I went to scream, it stopped.
This summer, I have been away from home, but my brother still calls me to tell me the weird things that go on. While my parents where on vacation, my brother stayed my himself for a week in the house. He said he was in his room and saw a man walk up the stairs, look at him, and walk into our parents room. The next day, he saw the same shape, but very shadowy rather than solid in the garage. He said he stared at it for awhile then began to walk towards it and it disappeared.
My mom says my brother still refuses to go into the garage. Whatever it is that is in our house, it does not scare us, just kind of freaks us out. I know that I am scared to be alone and probably always will be in that house.

When
I was about 9 years old my little sister and our best
friends had a sleepover at my house.
At the end of the hallway by my bedroom there was an antique clock that my dad had bought before I was born but had quit working when I was about five.
Well, on that night, we were doing the usual slumber party stuff and went to sleep about twelve (my sister and her friend went to her room.) At about two I heard a loud ticking. I woke up my best friend Gina to go check it out with me.
We
cautiously walked down the hallway and when we got to the end we looked up and
saw the clock ticking. I thought it was strange being it hadn't worked
in 4 years.
But
as soon as we turned around to go back to my room there was
a strange, cold breeze that swept by us and the clock abruptly stopped and
didn't ever move another inch.
Gina and I ran screaming back to my room and jumped in bed, covering our heads and crying all night. We never talked about it to anyone or each other ever again.

My encounter with the supernatural (perhaps!) occurred about seven years ago.
At the time I had two children, one five years old, the other, two. I had been working from home, dealing with my small children, and attempting to clean my house.
My husband and I were under a lot of stress because his mother had terminal brain cancer. She was doing better recently, but the stress of her illness consumed us.
Consequently, by dinner time I was exhausted. After dinner I went upstairs to take a nap. I have a large, HEAVY four poster bed. While not asleep, I was quite relaxed, feeling much better and contemplated getting up to continue my day. All of a sudden my bed shook. I was more perplexed than frightened.
Still
a little groggy, I ran to the window to see if a large truck had just passed.
But I do not recall hearing any vehicle sound. It was unnerving but I just
shrugged it off. I mentioned it to my husband and asked him if he felt the
house shake (I began thinking, even though we liven an area where earthquakes
don't usually occur, that perhaps that is what happened; there wasn't) or if he
noticed any unusually large truck passing by. He did not.
No
less than an hour later we received a call from my father-in-law.
My mother-in-law was rushed to the hospital earlier that day with a
seizure. She passed away that evening, around
the same time I had my
strange experience.
Was
this my mother-in-law saying goodbye? She was an awesome woman who is very
much missed. Whether my experience was due to something earthly or not, I
prefer to think it was this wonderful woman saying her last goodbyes.

This is yet another example of a faceless being... I am convinced that the faceless visitor does not bode well... In fact, I would go so far as to advise those with a faceless visitor to take measures to avoid meeting with "it" again!

I was pretty young when this happened. I lived in a military neighborhood and there was rumor that where our houses were built was farmland and the man who was the care taker died there.
A
lot of strange things would happen in that house. My grandparents and my
great grandmother were visiting for a week and I ended up sleeping on my
brothers bunk bed with my grandmother on the bottom bunk.
The
next day, I was in the bathroom and my room is across the hall about 4 ft
away. The door was closed and out of the corner of my eye I saw a shadow
pass
at the bottom opening as if someone was walking by. I freaked out and
just stared straight on for a couple of seconds and saw
it again.
I
knew no one was in my room because I had just come out of there and the
blinds were closed. I walked into the room slowly to find nobody and
nothing. I
shrugged it off and just told myself my eyes were tricking me.
Later
that day my grandmother said she was sitting in the living room and said she
heard footsteps on our wood deck. She looked out the sliding glass door
to see no one but the gate was open to the backyard fence. She walked out
and closed it. She went inside and heard the footsteps again. Looked
outside saw the that fence was open again and there was no wind outside.
She closed it and that was last time she heard the footsteps.
That
night I woke up to see the hallway light on and a figure standing in the
doorway. I couldn't see a face it was just a dark figure. I thought
maybe it was my mother and called out to her and there was no answer I did
it again and still no answer I look below and see my grandmother sound
asleep. I look up again and the figure is gone and the light was off.
Shortly
after, my brother explained to my parents that it was difficult for
him to sleep because around the same time every night he would wake up to
see a dark figure standing at the foot of his bed. He drew it out for us
one night and it was similar to what I saw but it was much more scary
looking. This figure kept pursuing my brother until the day he was saved
and the figure appeared no more.

I absolutely love hospital based stories! We've gotten so many here at ghostories! Perhaps you saw death, perhaps it was the patient's shade departing... we'll never know....
Dr. Death....

Where it happened: At work in a Nursing Home
Posted on: 10/12/03
Back
in 1995 I was working as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home in
Illinois. I had done this work for almost ten years, and had seen a lot of
things, but one night I saw something I can't forget.
I worked the late shift and was busy on my rounds putting residents to bed.
When I tucked my last patient in for the night, I pulled the switch to turn off
the overhead light, not realizing it was the only light in the room, save for
the hallway light which shown under the door.
I blinked my eyes to adjust to the light, and as I did, I saw a tall, dark shape
hovering between myself and the doorway, near the right hand side of the wall.
It startled me, and made me stop in my steps. As I hesitated for the door, the dark, shapeless apparition seemed to float upward to the ceiling. I took a brave breath and reached for the doorknob, opening the door to the lighted hall. Just then, the nurse in the room to my right quietly called me to come right away.
The
patient who had been in the room just on the other side of the wall had just
expired. What did I see? Some theorize it was a spirit departing,
some think it was "doctor death" making an appearance.
Whatever
it was, it scared me. After that I started working the day shift.

Dirty Laundry...

Well,
it was like the middle of school when I got sick so I
called home and no one was there and at the time my Grandma was alive.
I
called my grandma and asked if she could pick me up she said sure. About a
half hour she was at school so I got called to the office went to her
house. Later I found out that my dad had to go to Devils Lake (a city near
where we live) for business. I stayed at my grandmas.
I always hated that house I swear there was something in the basement. My Grandma got some blankets and pillows sent me downstairs and told me "don't go in the laundry room its really messy" I went to bed and at about midnight I heard something and thinking nothing of it I went back to sleep.
At about 2 or 3 in the morning I thought I heard my grandpa say something it sounded like it came from the laundry room so right when I was about to go in there I remembered something, My Grandpa was dead.
Scared, I ran up to My Grandma and said "Grandma, I miss my dad can I sleep with you tonight" I've never slept in the basement since and I still haven't told my Grandma about that.
I wonder
what Grandma was keeping in the Laundry room???
